Emma Lomax, BA, MSc., SLP, Reg. CASLPO, Clinic Owner

Emma Lomax Speech-Language Pathologist

Emma is a Speech-Language Pathologist who graduated from Queen Margaret University with a Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology.  Emma is registered with the College of Audiologists and Speech-Language Pathologists of Ontario (CASLPO) as well as with Speech-Language and Audiology Canada (SAC).  Emma is also a Assistant Clinical Professor (Adjunct) at McMaster University. 

She has experience working with both children and adults in a variety of settings such as schools, client’s homes and hospitals.   Through these experiences, Emma developed a passion for working with children with a variety of speech and communication needs such as developing social communication skills, language development, motor speech and no-tech and low-tech Alternative and Augmentative Communications (AAC) strategies and devices.  She is an advocate for early intervention and involving families and caregivers in therapy sessions in order to help each client reach their full potential.  Emma has completed the  Introduction to PROMPT techniques, as well as  “Digging Deeper: A practical, in-depth look at motor speech assessment and therapy” from the Speech and Stuttering Institute. These  allow her assess motor movements, and use precise tactile cues to facilitate  the motor movements of speech for better sound approximation. 

Emma has also participated in Making the Shift: The Virtual Experience which provides strategies to help children develop sensory regulation skills, self advocacy skills, and support their emotional well being through communication.

Ceciley Foreman, BA, CDA, Team Lead

CecileyForeman Communicative Disorders Assistant (CDA)

Ceciley is a Communicative Disorders Assistant (CDA) having graduated from Durham College with Honours. Prior to this she attended Carleton University where she completed an Honours Bachelor of Arts Degree with a major in Linguistics and a minor in Psychology.

Ceciley has work and volunteer experience with both adults and children in various settings such as community living, and private practice. It has been through these experiences that she has developed a strong sense of client and family-centered care and believes in the importance of individualized therapy. She is passionate about working with children to help them build their communication needs in areas such as: articulation, literacy, and language.

Ceciley has completed Orton-Gillingham Foundations training, and completed “Digging Deeper: A practical, in-depth look
at motor speech assessment and therapy” from the Speech and Stuttering Institute. 
This allows her to carry out treatment plans that facilitate motor movements of speech for better sound approximation. Ceciley has experience implementing sensory regulation strategies to help children reach their optimal regulation state, and achieve their full potential.  

Sarah Mohamed
BA, CDA, Social Media Manager

Sarah

Sarah is a Communicative Disorder Assistant having graduated from Durham College with Honors. She received her Honors Bachelor Degree in Arts double majoring in Linguistics and Women & Gender Studies, and completed a certificate in teaching English to speakers of other languages (CELTA).

She has experience in preschool speech and language, particularly in receptive and expressive language delays as well as articulation. Additionally, she has experience in literacy with school age children. Prior to her career in communication disorder therapy, she was a teacher and had developed vast knowledge and experience working with school age children, by appropriately addressing their specific needs and building positive connections between parents and herself. Sarah finds it imperative to implement an inclusion and diversity lens when working with clients and their families to meet their specific and individual needs. 

She is passionate about helping children reach their full potential.

Allison Winter Paul
MSc., SLP, Reg. CASLPO

Allison Winter Paul

Allison is a Speech-Language Pathologist who graduated from the University of Toronto with a Masters of Health Science in Speech-Language Pathology. Prior to this, she completed a degree in Early Childhood Studies and worked as an Early Childhood Educator. Allison is registered with the College of Audiologists and Speech-Language Pathologists of Ontario (CASLPO) and the Speech-Language and Audiologists of Canada (SAC).

Allison has a strong medical background with a passion for working with clients with complex medical needs and neurodevelopmental differences affecting communication and swallowing. She has experience working with clients of all ages from infancy to end-of-life in hospital, home, community, and virtual settings.

Allison is a compassionate clinician who is dedicated to working collaboratively with families to create a nurturing environment for optimal learning. She is a fantastic listener who will take the time to get to know each client and incorporate individual interests, strengths and goals into therapy. She has experience providing assessment, consultation, and therapy to clients in the areas of early intervention, articulation, motor speech, language, voice, alternative and augmentative communication (AAC), and feeding. 

Allison is committed to lifelong learning to ensure that she remains a reliable source for her clients and colleagues.

Sachel Gordon

Sachel

Sachel is an administrative professional with a diploma in Social Work. She has over 6 years of experience working in the academic field, ranging from elementary to post-secondary levels.

Rebecca Danso
BA, CDA

Rebecca

Rebecca is a Communication Disorders Assistant who graduated from Durham College after completing her placement at Communication Kids. She is also a Brock University Alumna in which she studied Child Health as her major and Applied Linguistics as her minor. 

She has a passion for working with children and youth and she is dedicated to finding ways implement therapy goals to help individuals from all walks of life use effective communication in their everyday lives and ultimately help them reach their full potential.

Natasha Westbrook
BA, MSLP, Reg CASLPO

Natasha

Natasha is a Speech-Language Pathologist who graduated from the University of Sydney in Australia with a Masters in Speech-Language Pathology. Prior to this, she graduated from Brock University with an Honours Bachelor of Arts Degree in Speech and Language Sciences. Natasha is registered with the College of Audiologists and Speech-Language Pathologists of Ontario (CASLPO) as well as with Speech-Language and Audiology Canada (SAC).

She has experience in assessment, consultation and intervention with both children and adults in a variety of settings such as schools, clinics, and client’s homes. These experiences have allowed Natasha to develop a therapeutic approach that is passionate and holistic in nature while working with children with a variety of speech and communication needs such as early language development, school-aged language needs, articulation, motor speech, and developing pre-literacy and literacy skills. Additionally, she has gained experience working with clients using a variety of AAC Alternative and Augmentative Communication (AAC) avenues.

Natasha has completed training and is now able to train and conduct treatment using the Remediation Plus System for literacy as well as the Foundations Course for Orton-Gillingham Training. She recently participated in the SAC Virtual Speech-Language Pathology School Services Symposium 2023 which is designed to provide participants with practical information about recent developments and current practices relative to literacy, with a specific focus on the science of reading touched upon in the Ontario Human Rights Commission (OHRC)’s Right to Read Report.

Natasha is joining our team to help with supervision and conduct assessments. She is not currently taking on new clients until summer of 2024. 

Maria Xu
BA, MSc, Reg CASLPO

Maria is a Speech-Language Pathologist who graduated from McMaster University with a Master’s of Science degree in Speech-Language Pathology. Prior to this, she graduated from Queen’s University with an Honours Bachelor of Arts Degree in Linguistics and History. She is registered with the College of Audiologists and Speech-Language Pathologists of Ontario (CASLPO).

She has experience in providing direct and consultative interventions to pediatric and adult clients in the areas of developmental language, articulation/phonology, motor speech, fluency, voice, social and cognitive communication/ASD, literacy and phonological awareness skills, auditory processing, oral rest posture, AAC and professional communication. She has delivered communication and swallowing interventions in diverse settings, including clinics, public and private schools, rehabilitation facilities, client homes, acute care, and among first nation communities in Northern Ontario.

For her paediatric clients, Maria believes in the power of building communicative confidence and helping her young clients realize their fullest potential through play and enriching activities. She is a certified clinician in the It Takes Two to Talk program by the Hanen Institute, which equips her with evidence-based approaches in coaching parents to support their young ones’ early language development. She also completed the Motor Speech Training Program (MSTP) with the Speech and Stuttering Institute and the Oral Rest Posture Program to facilitate her speech interventions. She has a special interest in supporting clients with fluency, voice, and resonance needs.

Maria is fluent in English, Mandarin Chinese, and Japanese. She appreciates the importance of linguistic and cultural preservation, and she is committed to matching SLP interventions to the unique cultural and linguistic contexts of the client and their family.

Hafza Mohamed Nuh

Hafza

Hafza is a highly motivated HBsc graduate from the University of Toronto, where she studied Linguistics and Biology. She has gained valuable experience working with youth at Midaynta Community Services and has actively observed speech therapy sessions at Communication Kids to further her knowledge and skills. Her interest in language development in children has inspired her to pursue a career as a Speech Language Pathologist in the future.

Jannat Sheikh

Jannat

Jannat graduated with her HBSc from the University of Toronto, where she majored in Biology for Health Sciences and Psychology. She has extensive work and volunteer experience working with and mentoring youth from vulnerable populations.  She is an empathetic individual with a passion to help others. Jannat hopes to pursue her Master’s in Speech Language Pathology in the near future. 

 

Karma Elshazly

Karma

Karma is a fourth-year student at McMaster University where she is majoring in Life Sciences with a minor in Psychology. She has experience working with vulnerable populations including both children and youth. She is passionate about having a positive impact on the well-being of young individuals.  Karma hopes to pursue her Masters’ in Speech Language Pathology in the future.
